About Isesaki Meisen

Meisen is a kimono that spread throughout Japan from the Taisho to Showa periods and was loved as everyday wear and fashionable clothing for women. The main production areas were in northern Kanto, with Kiryu, Ashikaga, Chichibu, Hachioji, and Isesaki being representative regions. Among them, Isesaki Meisen in Gunma Prefecture was the largest production area. Developed against the backdrop of a sericulture culture continuing since the Nara period, it was said that one in ten Japanese women wore it from the Meiji to Showa periods, making it widely loved. The characteristic of Isesaki Meisen is the unique pattern and vivid coloration created by the advanced technique called "Heiyo Kasuri." This technique dyes patterns not only on the warp threads but also on the weft threads, and by manually aligning each thread during weaving, it produces sharp and beautiful patterns. However, production has declined and it is no longer made, making it a very rare material.

<Pre-purchase Notes>
Since vintage kimonos are used, we avoid stains and dirt as much as possible during production. However, due to the production process, some items may have small stains or fabric damage that cannot be avoided. These are due to the passage of time, and we hope you will enjoy them as part of the charm. Thank you for your understanding.

<Care Instructions>
