Wearing 100 years of history. "Isesaki Meisen" revived with modern technology: 10 types of Japanese silk scarves

We have archived the designs of "Isesaki Meisen," a silk textile from Gunma Prefecture born about 100 years ago, and re-edited them to blend naturally into your daily life as scarves.

With Isesaki Meisen and other kimono fabrics, the bolt width is only about 36 cm. To create clothing within this limited width, we always had to face constraints, such as the need for clever pattern design and limited fabric availability.

However, by utilizing the archived design data this time, we have transcended those physical limitations, allowing them to be reborn as large-format scarves.

A piece that looks picture-perfect, no matter how you tie it.

Scarves change their appearance depending on whether they are spread out or tied. That is precisely why we redesigned the pattern layout so that a beautiful composition emerges the moment you tie it around your neck.

Through repeated prototyping and verification, we adjusted the width of the hem, the intensity of the colors, and the size of the patterns, down to the millimeter.
This is a piece that is complete the moment you wear it.

・With a jacket, knit, or shirt
・On a bag
・As a top
With numerous ways to use it, the breadth of your style expands.

Light, supple, and effortless silk jacquard weave.

The fabric used is 100% silk jacquard from "Ogura Orimono," a company in Ishikawa Prefecture with a 130-year history. They are a rare weaver specializing in wide-width silk jacquard, one of only a few in Japan.

・Lightweight
・Supple and easy to tie
・Cool on hot days, warm on cold days
Utilizing the inherent qualities of silk, we have finished this as a piece that can be worn all year round.

Samoan Collection

Items ⑦ through ⑩ are four special patterns created in collaboration with "Samoan Sugai," a highly popular influencer based in Gunma Prefecture with over 340,000 total followers.
This project was realized after we found common ground in our shared desire to "share the joy and charm of Meisen with even more people."

⑩ Pistachio

A piece that reconstructs the geometric motifs often seen in Isesaki Meisen—reminiscent of ancient civilizations—with contemporary color schemes. The linear and powerful composition is softened by the use of muted pink and olive tones.

Printed using Epson's inkjet printing technology

Archiving the designs of silk textiles that are no longer in production,
and reviving them in the modern day through the power of digital technology—
this is a joint project by Ay and EPSON.

The playful colors and designs of Isesaki Meisen,
as well as the delicate expressions of the "kasuri" (splashed patterns), are faithfully reproduced on silk material.
Through high-precision inkjet technology,
even fine gradients and the slight tremors in the lines are beautifully expressed.

Monna Lisa by EPSON
The fabric for this collection is printed using EPSON's sustainable textile printer, "Monna Lisa."

・Reduces water consumption by up to 96%
・On-demand production that requires no printing plates
・Environmentally friendly process with reduced chemicals

We have achieved manufacturing that is gentle on both the environment and the makers.

Careful Japanese sewing

In a factory within Japan, we employ highly delicate sewing known as a 2mm rolled hem.
The thin, beautifully finished edges bring a sophisticated impression to the entire scarf.

・Size: Approx. 90cm+ (length) x 90cm+ (width) (varies depending on the fabric bolt)
・Material: 100% Silk
・Country of production: Japan

Because we use rare, limited-quantity fabrics, the fabric patterns for general retail versions will change depending on the production lot. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind encounter.
