Wearing 100 years of history. 10 types of Japanese silk scarves reviving "Isesaki Meisen" with modern technology

We have archived the patterns of "Isesaki Meisen," a silk textile from Gunma Prefecture created about 100 years ago, and re-edited them for everyday life as scarves.

For textiles like Isesaki Meisen, the fabric width of a kimono bolt is only about 36cm. Creating clothing within this limited width always meant facing constraints, such as the need for clever pattern design or fabric shortages.

However, by utilizing archived pattern data, we have overcome those physical limitations and reborn them as large-format scarves.

A piece that looks picturesque, no matter how you wear it.

Scarves change their expression when spread out versus when worn. That is why we redesigned the pattern layout so that the composition looks beautiful the moment it is wrapped around your neck.

After repeated prototyping and testing, we adjusted the width of the hem, the intensity of the colors, and the size of the patterns down to the millimeter.
It is a piece that becomes complete the moment you wear it.

・With jackets, knits, or shirts
・On a bag
・As a top
There are many ways to use it, broadening your range of styling.

Light and supple. Silk jacquard weave for effortless daily use

The fabric uses 100% silk jacquard weave from "Kokura Orimono," a company in Ishikawa Prefecture with a 130-year history. They are one of the few precious weavers in Japan specializing in wide-width silk jacquard.

・Lightweight
・Supple and easy to tie
・Cool on hot days, warm on cold days
Harnessing the natural properties of silk, we have crafted a piece that can be used all year round.

Paris Collection

These designs were translated into scarves based on the collection we recently presented at Paris Fashion Week.

③ Pink

A feminine design with understated sweetness, featuring striking pink flowers blooming on a pale background. It brings a natural brightness to your face, creating a gentle impression.

Printed with EPSON inkjet technology

Archiving patterns of silk textiles no longer in production, and reviving them for the modern day using the power of digital technology—
This is a joint project by Ay and EPSON.

The playful colors and designs of Isesaki Meisen, along with the delicate expressions of its "kasuri" (ikat) patterns, are faithfully reproduced on silk. With high-precision inkjet technology, we beautifully express even the subtle gradations and the swaying of the lines.

Monna Lisa by EPSON
The fabric for this collection is printed using EPSON's sustainable textile printer, "Monna Lisa."

・Reduces water consumption by up to 96%
・On-demand production requiring no printing plates
・Environmentally friendly process with reduced chemicals

We have achieved manufacturing that is gentle on both the environment and the makers.

Careful Japanese sewing

At a factory in Japan, we employ highly delicate sewing known as a 2mm rolled hem. By keeping the edges narrow and beautifully finished, it brings a sophisticated impression to the entire scarf.

・Size: Approx. 90cm+ x 90cm+ (varies depending on the textile bolt)
・Material: 100% Silk
・Country of production: Japan

Because we use precious woven fabrics with limited production quantities, the woven patterns for general sales may change depending on the production lot. We hope you enjoy these one-of-a-kind encounters.
