Silk Scarf "Navy"

Wearing 100 years of history. "Isesaki Meisen" revived with modern technology: 10 types of Japanese-made silk scarves

We have archived the patterns of "Isesaki Meisen," a silk textile from Gunma Prefecture born about 100 years ago, and reimagined them as scarves to naturally fit into your daily life.

With Isesaki Meisen and other kimono fabrics, the bolt width is only about 36cm. Creating clothing within this limited width has always required us to face constraints, such as ingenuity in pattern design or a lack of fabric.

However, by utilizing archived pattern data, we have overcome those physical limitations and been reborn as large-format scarves.

A scarf that looks beautiful, no matter how you tie it.

A scarf changes its expression when spread out versus when tied. That is why we redesigned the pattern layout so that the composition looks beautiful the moment it is draped around your neck.

After repeated prototyping and testing, we adjusted the width of the hem, the strength of the colors, and the size of the patterns, all down to the millimeter. It is a piece that feels complete the moment you tie it.

・With a jacket, knitwear, or shirt
・On your bag
・As a top
There are many ways to wear it, expanding your range of styles.

Light, supple, and effortless silk jacquard

For the fabric, we use 100% silk jacquard from "Ogura Textile," which has been operating in Ishikawa Prefecture for 130 years. They are one of the few precious weavers in Japan that specializes in wide-width silk jacquard.

・Lightweight
・Supple and easy to tie
・Cool on hot days, warm on cold days
Harnessing the natural properties of silk, we have finished this as a piece that can be used all season long.

Archive Collection

In carrying out this project, we created two new designs from Ay's archive data so that they might appeal to a wider range of sensibilities.

⑤ Navy

A design featuring the white of water plantains floating on a deep navy background. The beautiful contrast stands out, giving a sophisticated, modern impression.

Printed using Epson's inkjet technology

Archiving the patterns of silk textiles whose production has ceased and bringing them back to life in the modern day through the power of digital technology—this is a joint project by Ay and EPSON.

The playful colors and designs of Isesaki Meisen, as well as the delicate appearance of the *kasuri* (ikat), are faithfully reproduced on silk material. Through high-precision inkjet technology, even the subtle gradations and the wavering of the lines are beautifully expressed.

Monna Lisa by EPSON
The fabric for this collection is printed using EPSON's sustainable textile printer, "Monna Lisa."

・Up to 96% reduction in water usage
・On-demand production that requires no printing plates
・Environmentally conscious process with fewer chemicals

We are realizing manufacturing that is kind to both the environment and the creators.

Careful sewing made in Japan

In a domestic factory in Japan, we employ an extremely delicate sewing technique known as a 2mm rolled hem. By having a thin, beautiful edge, the entire scarf gains a sophisticated impression.

・Size: Approx. 90cm long x 90cm wide (varies by fabric bolt)
・Material: 100% silk
・Country of manufacture: Japan

Because we use precious fabrics with limited production quantities, the woven patterns for general retail sales may change depending on the production lot. Please enjoy the "once-in-a-lifetime" nature of these encounters.
