What is Isesaki Meisen?
Meisen spread throughout Japan from the Taisho to the Showa eras, and was a popular kimono for women as both everyday wear and fashionable clothing. Northern Kanto is the main production area, with Kiryu, Ashikaga, Chichibu, Hachioji, and Isesaki being representative regions. Among them, Isesaki Meisen in Gunma Prefecture was the largest production area. It developed against the backdrop of a silk-raising culture that has continued since the Nara period, and was loved by so many people that it is said that one in ten Japanese women wore it from the Meiji to the Showa eras. Isesaki Meisen is characterized by its unique patterns and vivid colors, which are achieved by an advanced technique called " heiyo -gasuri." With this technique, patterns are dyed not only on the warp threads but also on the weft threads, and each thread is hand-woven together during weaving to create sharp and beautiful patterns. However, it has now declined and is no longer produced.
<Things to check before purchasing>
As we use vintage kimonos, we try to avoid stains and dirt when making our products. However, due to the production process, in some cases it is unavoidable to have small stains or scratches on the fabric. These are things that appear over time, so we hope you will enjoy them as well. Thank you for your understanding.
